Welcome to my Website

My name is Dr. Richard Joelson and I welcome you to my website. I have always been concerned about the number of people needing counseling or psychotherapy services who, for one reason or another, have not been able to find the help they need. This may be due to uncertainties, myths, and fears that some people have about getting this kind of help as well as difficulties understanding how to best go about finding a good psychotherapist. When people become informed consumers regarding mental health and available counseling or psychotherapy services, obtaining proper treatment is much more likely.

In the course of my work as a psychotherapist and mental health counselor for almost forty years, I have often been gratified to see clients obtain benefit from a new way of understanding an issue or conflict with which they have struggled, often for many years; sometimes for their entire lives. I am pleased when clients are able to take in new information that challenges long-standing negative ideas or beliefs about themselves and their lives. Often, these significant moments occur in the context of a psychotherapy session. Sometimes, however, clients obtain important benefit from a good self-help book or an article read in a magazine, journal, or a website like this one.

The many free articles available on my website cover a variety of topics and have been provided to enlighten, inform, and educate visitors. My hope is that you will find information here that will help you in your efforts to increase your knowledge, strengthen your own personal resources, and contribute, in some small way, to your overall well-being. The audio tapes on Panic Assistance and Managing Stress may also be helpful if you struggle with either of these issues.

Subjects such as anxiety, depression, stress management, marriage counseling, self esteem, and physical or psychological trauma are but a few contained in my website. It is also my hope that the information contained in these free articles might help to determine whether or not you or someone you care about might possibly benefit from counseling or psychotherapy. If you are interested in learning more about counseling or psychotherapy, I invite you to contact me using the form on the Contact page so that I might be able to assist you in finding the help you need.

Please take a few minutes to browse through my website. Within the articles you may find information that will help you in your own efforts to lead a more satisfying and productive life.
